A Renovation
Renovating a home is more often than not about the aesthetics and look of an existing space. Your room(s) may be functional, but they need updating. Switching out faucets and lighting in a bathroom, painting cabinets and adding hardware in a kitchen, or adding wallpaper and new flooring in a bedroom are all examples of home renovations. There may be some plumbing, preparation, or electric work involved, but you aren’t changing the overall space or layout. A remodel would work closely with our design team to make plans that worked for the family and your home. Many older homes get renovations as their homeowners love the home, but are looking for the space to be updated and freshened up.
A Remodel
If you are looking to create new or alter existing space with construction, then you are looking for a remodel. Adding new space, tearing out and replacing with a demolition, or altering the floorplan of your home would all fall under the scope of a remodel. These projects are usually larger in scope and while some of the elements of a remodel are similar to a renovation because they involve the aesthetics of a space, a remodel gets to the “bones” of a room. According to The Spruce, “[r]emodeling is ideal for improving the functionality and layout of the home, but it will typically cost more and take longer”. They go on to state a remodel usually costs $47,000 on average while a renovation averages around $15,000. During a remodel, you will also be making some of the same aesthetic choices you would make in a renovation, but you are changing the structure first.
