Pumpkin spice has been added to all of our favorite meals, snacks, and drinks. Football at all levels is being cheered for from Thursday nights through Monday evenings. There is less blazing sun and the promise of cooler weather is hinted at every morning. Fall is here and it is time to enjoy the coziness of the season. Gerard Construction has a number of ideas for how to liven up your home with fall decor.
Scents and light
Switching out your candles to fall based seasons is a quick and easy way to start the transition into fall decor. By choosing scents with apples, spices, smoke, and other traditional fall flavors, you can create a fall environment in seconds. If you have candles with summer time scents, pack them away and store in a cool, dry space. They will hold over until spring rolls back around. Candles are a great way to add wonderful aromas and a cozy ambiance with flickering warm light. Outside spaces can use warm light year round, but it seems extra special during a late night by a fire with friends.
Textiles
Livening up your home with fall decor can involve textiles in multiple ways. For starters, switching out your throws, table runners, pillow covers, and towels to subtle fall prints or colors will provide instant fall feelings. Choose a color or two and build depth with different textures and patterns in those colors, alternating solids with stripes or a design like paisley. Consider other textiles and textures like woven materials and baskets to bring in natural elements to your decor.
Fresh and foliage
Fall has wonderful fresh foods and foliage you can use in your decor. Pumpkins and gourds come in a variety of shapes, colors, textures, and sizes to create a full tablescape or front porch decor or to tuck into a nook or on a shelf. Leaves and stalks of wheat are also great choices to add height to a display. Corn and acorns can be used as filler in jars or vases or as the base for candles and tea lights.
Multiple Spaces
One of the best ways to liven up your home with any decor is to thoughtfully plan where you will add different elements. Set the tone with decor at the main entry point of your home, both inside and out. A guest bathroom is a great place to add a few elements, even if it is a new hand towel and a candle in a coordinating color. If you don’t want to switch out all of your dishes, you can add a few serving dishes in fall colors that coordinate with your primary dishes. Also consider little ways to decorate a kid’s room to make the season extra fun for them.
